A superb example of the 2001 Royal Australian Mint Floral Emblems of Australia $100 Golden Wattle Gold Proof Coin, offered in as new condition and complete with its original Royal Australian Mint packaging, information leaflet and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
The Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha) is Australia’s national floral emblem, making this 2001 release a particularly significant issue within the Royal Australian Mint’s Floral Emblems of Australia series. The original RAM literature supplied with the coin states that Golden Wattle was proclaimed Australia’s national floral emblem on 1 September 1988. The Australian Government also confirms Golden Wattle as Australia’s national floral emblem.
The reverse, designed by Horst Hahne, depicts the Golden Wattle in proof finish, while the obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
With a limited mintage of only 2,500, this is a genuinely scarce Australian gold proof. Contemporary numismatic references also identify the 2001 $100 Golden Wattle as the 1/3oz issue of the Floral Emblems series.
